A Story of Protection and Learning in Darfur
In the heart of Darfur, where displacement camps and fragile communities struggle against the weight of conflict, NASP Organization has stepped forward with hope. Partnering with UNICEF, we began a journey to protect 3600 children and empower women, while opening doors to education for those who have been left behind.
Child Protection: Safe Spaces for Healing
It started in Zalingei, Central Darfur. Families in Al‑Jabalein neighborhood and the camps of Hassahisa, Hamidiya, and Tayba watched as fences rose around newly designated child‑friendly centers. These spaces were not just walls and offices—they became sanctuaries. Twelve counselors, each trained to listen and guide, joined the centers. Four guards stood watch, ensuring safety. Slowly, children began to gather, laughter returning to places once marked by silence.
At Khamsa Daqayeq camp, a Women’s Center was born. A female counselor welcomed women into a space designed for dignity and empowerment. Day and night guards ensured security, while maintenance plans promised sustainability. Here, women found not only protection but also a voice.
Digital Learning: Opening Doors to the Future
But protection alone is not enough. Children need opportunities to learn, to dream, to build futures beyond the camps. On March 25, 2025, NASP launched the Digital Learning Project, a bold initiative running until March 24, 2027.
Across more than 30 localities—from Azum and Bendasi to Al Fasher, Kutum, Tawila, and Um Kadadah—digital platforms began reaching children who had never entered a classroom, as well as those already in formal schools. Tablets, interactive lessons, and community-led learning hubs brought education to life. Out‑of‑School Children discovered pathways back into learning, while enrolled students gained new tools to thrive.
Building Capacity, Building Resilience
Between December 7–11, 2025, community protection networks were trained to confront gender‑based violence, strengthen prevention, and ensure safe referral systems. These sessions planted seeds of resilience, equipping local actors to safeguard their own communities.
The Impact
Together, these projects weave a story of resilience:
- Children playing safely in protected centers
- Women finding strength in dedicated spaces
- Communities learning to respond to violence with courage
- Out‑of‑School Children discovering education through digital innovation
